The Welsh
First Minister has recently announced the appointment of a
"Commissioner for Older People". Could the Isle of Man benefit
from a similar appointment, as a voice in Tynwald to
directly represent the interests of older people? If so, can you
think of any suitable candidates to nominate for the post?
Can older people survive, if fuel and rates bills continue to rise at
three times the rate of incomes? Do we need someone to speak for
us?

If you are an "older person",
how could life be improved for you?
(Out of doors):
Edge marking of steps; adequate handrails; unobstructed pavements?
(In the media): Clearer print for magazines and websites,
with priority given to legibility over artistic layout;
clearer sound for television, without the carcophony of
superimposed drums etc.? (Media
studies may have a lot to answer for).
Music: With most radio channels now
devoted almost exclusively to "pop", How long is it since you
heard the
music of your choice?
(Computers): For the
housebound, the internet can be a big release. Is it time to
make
it easier,
simpler, faster and cheaper?
(Consumer products):
Why so many black knobs and buttons on black panels with near black
markings? Why not something
we can SEE?
(Disability Aids) :
Are they a rip-off? Could a £500 hearing aid be supplied
for £20? Why does a wheelchair cost more than a
bicycle? Or a computer keyboard with large letters several times
that of a normal one?
